Fun-couver, here I come!!

Hello! I am nowhere near prepared enough for the half on Sunday, but I'm still going to do it. I know that I can. It'll be a good reminder for me: training is essential!

So I must go and pack, but here's a pic that C. took of me and S. this weekend in Canmore. Check out the funky sock monkey hat!

Weekend Recap

I just got home from a lovely weekend in Banff. Good friends, good (relatively) weather, good food, good drinks and great digs made for a FABULOUS time!

Friday:
-stopped for one last bowl of pho. The owners of our fave restaurant are off to Vietnam for a month =(
-bought two new pairs of Birkenstocks
-arrived in Canmore and Carol made yummy pasta dinner and we drank an amazing bottle of red

Saturday:
-arrived at the run to find complete chaos
-I had no direction whatsoever as a volunteer and was quite perturbed to be yelled at by who I think was the race marshall for being where I was told to be. Bah!
-Steve arrived and we headed into town in the midst of a snow storm
-had bevvies and dinner with my old friend Candace and her friend Lisa. They ran the race and it's a good thing I greeted all the finishers with an aromatherapy towel--otherwise we never would have seen each other!
-moved the party back to the condo and watched some Harry Potter

Today:
-walked 6K into town, shopped, had lunch, and walked back
-drove home in yet another blizzard
-cuddling in front of the fire with Nerm

It's all good. Hope you had a good one, too.

Thank God It's Friday!

I think I say that every Friday, but I'm really feeling it today. I'm overtired, cranky and my diet shows it: can we say carbs?!

Alas, I took a little banked overtime to come home and tidy, not to mention pack, for the weekend in Canmore. The forecast isn't good (5-10 cm snow) but we'll still have a good weekend.

Hope the sun is shining wherever you are!

Earth Day

Mother Nature is in a foul mood. It's April 22, for Pete's sake (who is Pete, BTW?)! Snow? You've got to be kidding. But no, it's true. Le sigh (see, I even made it to French class tonight). I. Am. So. Sick. Of. Winter.

Had a great night last night. Put in an hour and a half of over time (cha ching--or in this case banked so that I get more time off) and then had a quick nap. S. and I played a round of mini golf. We stopped keeping score after the second hole--it wasn't pretty. We declared it a tie game in the end! Went out for Vietnamese for dinner-tres yummy.

Heading to Canmore this weekend for some R 'n R. C is running in the Rocky Mountain Soap Company's Women's Run. I didn't get my registration in on time, so I'm volunteering at the aromatherapy wellness station (whatever the heck that is). S. is (hopefully) coming out on Saturday night to join us at the big condo we will call home for three days/two nights.

Don't know much else. Except je suis tres fatiguee. I had an hour and a half nap this afternoon and I can't tell. Two more days. Two more days....

Sunny Sunday

Good morning! The sun is shining and I don't have to work. It's going to be a GREAT day!

I may sneak over to my old place and get my bike...seems like a good day to go for a ride. I also have no desire to run--I've come to the conclusion that I'll be walking the half in Vancouver. I may start out running, but there's no way I'm conditioned to run the whole thing without seriously injuring myself. So I just need to beat my time from 2006: 3:02:22.

I am very excited that Amber and I are going to meet for coffee, though!

Going to J's yoga class at 2 and then having a catch up with her. I don't think I've seen her since Christmas Day and that is far too long! I hate it when I get so busy I don't have time to see my peeps on a regular basis. I think we'll have to reinstate the Sunday night dinner ritual. (We'd go to yoga and then take turns cooking dinner for each other.)

6 am start time all week this week--yikes! I'd also better plan something for lunches or the scale will definitely not be headed in the right direction.

Happy Sunday!

Good thing my head's attached

Or else I might leave it at home, too! Egad, what a day! Walked down to MEC to check things out and wore my Garmin to track things. Took it off while C and I had lunch (fab new restaurant that I will definitely go back to--The Holy Grill). Realized when S. and I arrived at park that Garmin was not in either my purse or bag. Small moment of panic. Phone C--did I leave it in your car? Nope. She swung by the restaurant but it was closed. SHOOOT! So, there goes $300, I'm thinking. Oh well, c'est la vie.

Then S. and I head down to his new hood to check it out (it was a gorgeous day to be outside). Stopped at the little coffee shop along the river (Angel's) and had a cup of chai. Sat and drank and read the paper, then strolled through the park. Got all the way through the park before I realized that I had left my purse in Angel's. Holy Moly Batman, you can't be serious! Thankfully, it was still there when we got there (S. got to see me walking at race pace and had a hard time keeping up, hehehehe). But then really, who would steal something in a place called Angel's?

Got home and had an A-ha! moment. I took my MEC purchases out of my bag before I met S....is it possible?....Yes, yes it is! I found the Garmin! It was rolled up with the new t-shirt I bought. WHEW! I guess I have no excuse not to run tomorrow, do I?

Happy weekend!

Drumming = Very Cool

That is all.

TGIF

Say no more.

I'm exhausted from work this week! I haven't had two days off in a row for two weeks and I'm feelin' it. Learning new stuff, up early (have to be there at 6), reading great book (don't shut off light early enough)....leaves H-woman tired.

Going to have a quick nap, then off for diner and drumming with C. Tomorrow and Sunday are still up in the air b/c S. might have to work. =(

And I will go for a run/walk. Funcouver is fast approaching!

I've spared you all the saga that was my summer vacation request, but let's just say it was DENIED, not once, but TWICE, and it shouldn't have been. So I've resubmitted for two weeks in the fall. Maui is nice that time of year! If it's denied, some serious SHIT will hit the fan!

And now I must nap!

Hump Day

I've got nothing to report. French started again tonight and it felt good to use the other half of my brain (I'm a gainfully employed science geek and proud of it!). Learning a new bench at work so my brain is a little overwhelmed at the moment.

The gingersnaps made on Monday were given rave reviews by S (I TOLD him I make the best cookies, but did he believe me? Nope, not until he tried 'em!). I have also partaken in the wondrous joy of the cookies. It's because I'm tired, I know that, but I can't seem to help myself!

Noodles tomorrow and then it's TGIF. I can't wait. Going to a "Save the CBC" rally after work and then drumming with a friend. I hope there's time in there for a nap!

A bientot,
H =)

Monday updated

Taxes: Done. And I get a refund! How annoying is it that it took longer to Netfile the damn thing than to fill out the forms?

Soup: In progress. Simmering as I type.

Laundry: Drying. This one is HUGE for me. I despise laundry with every fibre of my being. Seriously. I'll go buy new underwear instead of doing laundry. But it's clean sheet day, so all is good in the world.

Family reunion: Almost done. Just need to hit the post office.

Run/walk: going for noodles with C. & S. tonight in Kensington. C. & I are walking so I'll get in some steps if nothing else.

Cookies: Made. Mmmm...gingersnaps!

Change of Address for my magazines: Done. Almost seems too easy....

Enumerated: for the city. I don't have kids, don't own (therefore don't pay city taxes), so why do they care which school system I support? I don't get it.

Whew! But where the heck has my day gone?? I think I need a nap!

Non-titled post

I can't think of anything witty so today is just going to be a blank.

I have an incredibly exciting day planned: cleaning the house and doing my taxes. For added excitement, I may just throw in a load of laundry! Thank God we're going for noodles tonight or I might be incredibly cranky in about 3.5 hours. I think I have all the paperwork in one place (which is half the battle, right?) and should just have to enter it into Quicktax. I usually send my stuff to an accountant but I left it to the last minute and would feel bad calling her now to ask her to do them for me. I just get so cranky when I see how much money I made, then see how much I paid the government and then see our health care, education and infrastructure go to shit.

I also have some stuff to do for my family reunion (mostly addressing the invites and getting them in the mail). I also want to go for a run/walk and make something for lunches this week. Start time is 0600h for the next two weeks, so I need stuff ready made that can just be thrown into the lunch box as I'm flying out the door. I'm thinking a hearty lentil soup with lotsa spinach, chicken and a spud or two. Add a squeeze of lemon and it's perfect.

So I guess I should get started. Maybe breakfast and a cuppa chai first, though!

Spring has finally sprung!

Which was evidenced by the plethora of people on patios drinking beer yesterday, myself included! Let's just say that not enough water was consumed in conjunction with said beer and leave it at that.

Came home when the sun went down (and it got cold) and watched a movie (W.) then crashed. Didn't sleep very well, though, so I'm sure there is a nap in today's plan somewhere. I really should go for a run, too. I just need to get my lazy ass off the couch!

Hope the sun is shining wherever you are!

Yaaaaawn!

Super tired--got home late, went for a walk and a cuppa with the boy and got up at five this morning. I can barely keep my eyes open and I even caught a quick nap after work!

Went to celebrate my fave person's b-day tonight. Had a yummo Greek dinner and fabulous company. The restaurant was empty, so her hubbie danced for us. It truly was a sight to behold. =P

I just finished a couple episodes of Corrie (I need my fix) but since I can't keep my eyes open anymore, I think I should call it a day. So good bye, Tuesday.

Busy, busy, busy!

I'm wiped from the weekend!

Here's the recap:

Saturday
- awakened early by downstairs neighbour, no nap
- farmer's market with the rest of the city (I hate crowds)
- 4.6K walk in girly shoes (not my best idea, but darn I looked good)
- dinner and house party

Sunday:
- kept awake by downstairs neighbour
- awakened early by same neighbour (Grrrrr!)
- run (not good--race on my regular route and it wasn't marked, so I had no idea where to run where I wouldn't be in the way. Add to that my superior lack of training and I'm amazed I lasted as long as I did!)
- Garden show with G. Again, another crowd, but we did enjoy a few sunbeams. Also a quick stop at Community Natural Foods.
- costco run with C. Have I mentioned how much I love crowds?? But I did stock up on Tazo chai concentrate which means I can kick my S'bucks habit and save some $$ everyday. Also got a big jar of Almond butter for a fraction of the price I paid at Superstore! Score one for H!
- Dinner with other C. Yummy chicken/veg curry, daal, naan and basmati. A Pom spritzer with mint and lime to finish it off.

Monday:
- pick up rental car
- go get mail that's been held while the sidewalk wasn't being cleaned
- drive 1.5 hours north to visit high school friend in hospital
- drive 1.5 hours home for last French class (that will involve vine and cheese)

So much for a day off to relax, but what else is a friend to do? I must go and relax now--I picked up a new meditation cd today, so we'll test that out. Peace out.

Saturday morning update

- Mother Nature doesn't seem so bitchy this morning. I think I actually see the sun!

- I missed coffee and stairs with the girls. I woke up at 4 and it took about an hour to get back to sleep. Then the dude downstairs CRANKED his tv/stereo/whatever just after 7. Seriously! Three stomps on the floor soon corrected that and I was able to drift off until just before 9. C phoned and I think I snapped a little "I'm sleeping. I'll call you later." I rolled over and managed to get a little more sleep before Nerm decided that she absolutely needed food or she would faint from hunger. sigh.

- While Nerm was eating, I did some yoga with Rodney Yee. Sigh. I heart yoga.

- Yummy brekkie: oats cooked in vanilla almond milk with crunchy almond butter and dark chocolate and a mug of chai

- Better hop in the shower. Farmer's Market calls!

Get out and enjoy the day!

TGIF

I am so glad it's Friday. I'm on call on the weekend, but I have a good feeling about it. Not that a little double time wouldn't be appreciated, but I'd rather have the weekend to myself!

Coffee and stairs tomorrow with the girls. Apparently we're shaking things up a little and instead of our regular walk, we're doing the stairs up the river bank. All 167 of 'em. Bring it on!

Picking up mini cupcakes for party in evening and then the boy and I are hoping mother nature co-operates so that we can play outside! Then we're making an appearance at aforementioned party. Then.....who knows?!

I need to go to the market this weekend: I'm down to one apple and there is only one type of cheese in my fridge! Granted, it's a very large chunk of amazing gouda, but I've become accustomed to some variety. Monday is our last French class and there will be wine, so I'm going to take du fromage. AND, this is the best part, I have Monday off! No working for me!!

All in all, it's gonna be a good weekend. I just know it.

Thursday musings

Well, it's almost the end of another week. Whew! I've been staying up late after work but still waking up early and then snoozing for awhile, so I wake up feeling not quite rested.

The sun is shining and the sky is blue, so I think I'm going to head outside for a bit. Not sure if I'll walk or run, but I need some vitamin D. And the forecast for tonight....SNOW. Sheesh! Are we not done with winter yet? Apparently not, according to Mama Nature.

I have actually tracked food in my WW online journal this morning. Egad, that hasn't happened in awhile. I need to get my ass in gear, though. Vancouver is fast approaching and summer right behind it. Biking and running are MUCH easier when I don't have an extra 20 pounds on me. This I know is true.

So with that, my friends, I am off to the great outdoors! Hope you get a chance to enjoy some today, too.

Hump Day

Nothing new to report here. Came home from work and watched the remaining episodes of 'Being Erica.' I do have the new Yoga Journal to peruse when I'm on my break tonight, though.

Got up and did some yoga and talked to my mom. Am contemplating finishing the laundry I started on the weekend, but we'll see. I'm going for lunch with my friend, G, who I haven't seen for over a month. Pho at our fave noodle house is in order!

I should get moving--I tend to have very lazy mornings when I work evenings and then wind up rushing around to get ready for work. I hate that!

Happy day, all!
H =)
