Running Mojo Has Returned!

I think it may have more than a little to do with that big burning ball of fire in the very blue sky, but whatever, I'll take it!

3.16 km
23:50
7:33 km/h
249 calories

My legs protested a little, but after the 20K they did for me on Sunday, I've got to say I'm pretty impressed with how I did.

Now, to whip up some veggie chili and pasta sauce to stock my freezer with!

Not a Hero

Not yesterday, anyway. Nope, not at all.

But I listened to my body and make a good decision: I stopped running right before the 20K mat(I saw the race marshal first!) during Around the Bay. Oh yeah, I could have finished. I wouldn't have been able to move at the end. Or today. And I would be spending all summer in physio therapy trying to undo the damage of being a hero.

So I said to myself, "Self, you didn't prepare for this race. Blame the weather, blame the fantastic ski conditions, whatever. You're under trained. Your body is telling you to stop. So STOP already!"

And I did. Do I regret it? Not at all. I learned a lot about my self yesterday:
-I'm in pretty awesome shape. I can run 20K with no training. It wasn't pretty, but I did it.

-I really do practice what I preach. In my yoga class, I'm always telling my students to honour their bodies. To accept that the limits today may be different than they were yesterday. Yoga isn't just about what happens on a sticky mat.

-I would rather have a DNF by my name than spend another couple thousand dollars in physiotherapy. As long as I learn from the DNF. Bring on ATB next year! Wait, let's get spring here first so that I can just go for a run!

-I can run pretty fast when I push myself, or when I listen to fast music.

-I miss running.

-My body amazes me. The things that I ask it to do and it does it. And doesn't make me pay (too badly).

And with that, I have a date with my fabulous claw foot tub and some Epsom salts.

Hello, Weekend!

And not just any weekend! No, it's time for Around the Bay! I'm going to a yoga class in the morning, tea after, then coming home to pack the last little bits and I'm off to Hamilton. That's right, Hamilton!

A long, slow run on Sunday (mostly because training has been non-existent due to terrible weather and good ski conditions) with friends followed by dinner out to celebrate. Really, it's the perfect way to end a month of celebrating my awesomeness. =)

Just Another Manic Monday

Oy.

Went to bed late, woke up waaaaay too early (3:30), trudged to work in snow and nearly wiped out on the ice. Hoped work wouldn't be too busy--my cold from the weekend reared its ugly head again--but alas, it was not to be. Didn't make it to yoga (hacking up a lung and sneezing all over one's yoga students is not ideal) but lounged on the couch with Nerm watching a movie (Zoolander).

Like Derek Zoolander, I struggle with turning left (only while skiing, not on a catwalk). My friends thought I needed to see it so that I'd know I'm not the only one. I will never get those 89 minutes of my life back.

Now I'm going to soak in the tub with a book and hope Tuesday arrives at the more civilized hour of 6:00.

Oh, the yoga retreat was AMAZING. Did lots of really bendy stuff with plenty of introspection on the goddess Saraswati. I'm also registered for the next one at the end of April. =)

Quantum Leaps

My birthday present to myself is this weekend. My teachers, Nora and Judy, are leading a weekend retreat at Quantum Leaps Lodge in Golden, BC.

I've got my mat, my comfy, stretchy yoga clothes and I'm ready to go! An auspicious weekend with a full moon and equinox.

Namaste.

I Can Do It!

Two fabulous days in Vancouver with amazing speakers: Wayne Dyer, Marianne Williamson and Geneen Roth, just to name a few. I Can Do It! is a conference hosted by Hay House. Amazing!

Three fabulous days in Fun-couver with my mom. We're meeting up with my old running buddy, neighbour and postie friend, Lisa Q. for dinner. Mmmm...Thai!

A hotel gym or the sea wall to run...it's all good.

Three fabulous days of fantastic skin and flat hair.

You can't have everything. =)

New Year!

Happy birthday to me! The last week has been pretty crazy, there's been lots going on. Most of it good, which is even better!

Celebrated my birthday by spending the day with my mom, having my annual doctor's appointment, shopping at Costco, knitting (on the bus to & from Red Deer) and then spending the evening with my cousin and her hubby.

Had a bit of a damper by the ex who felt my birthday was a great day to tell me his mom had died and here's the funeral details. Yeeesh. I responded with a polite, condolence filled email message. And I'm not going to the funeral. I struggled with that one, but what can you do. I don't want him in my life, even as a friend. I do feel incredibly sad that he had no one to tell about his mom, other than me.

Anyway, since then I've been working like mad (people are sick, machines are broken and that means overtime!). Last night we had our book club (clever disguise for eat, drink and be merry) and I got home around 4 this morning. My head hurts, but man, we had fun and some tasty wine!

Better get moving, I have to work in a few hours and I'm in no shape to do anything of the sort yet!

599

Seriously? I've made almost 600 posts? Huh.

I've been a skiing fool of late. Not that I'm complaining. My quads, on the other hand...

Yesterday was AMAZING. Literally the best day of the season. Although it didn't start out that way.
a) Effing cold outside.
b) Transit bus late.
c) City streets icy mess.
d) Fire trucks blocking major intersection my bus needs to cross.
e) Ski bus departs hotel as I approach lights to cross street.
f) Expletives *may* have been uttered at this point.
g) Almost have to heave man out of cab (who takes that long to pay?).
h) Cabbie does not understand urgency of situation. "Dude, you have 20 minutes to get me across the city before that bus leaves AGAIN. Faster!"
i) I got there (barely)!

Spent the day skiing with the only other person on the bus (till Canmore, anyway). We had an amazing day and I found even more runs that I like!

Today started out better than yesterday, but the visibility sucked. It snowed most of the day and when the sun did come out, there was a wicked wind with it. And like I said, my quads are tired! But I had a good day (any day sans wipeout is a good day in my books) and some good runs in.

And now I must sleep!
