Not a Hero

Not yesterday, anyway. Nope, not at all.

But I listened to my body and make a good decision: I stopped running right before the 20K mat(I saw the race marshal first!) during Around the Bay. Oh yeah, I could have finished. I wouldn't have been able to move at the end. Or today. And I would be spending all summer in physio therapy trying to undo the damage of being a hero.

So I said to myself, "Self, you didn't prepare for this race. Blame the weather, blame the fantastic ski conditions, whatever. You're under trained. Your body is telling you to stop. So STOP already!"

And I did. Do I regret it? Not at all. I learned a lot about my self yesterday:
-I'm in pretty awesome shape. I can run 20K with no training. It wasn't pretty, but I did it.

-I really do practice what I preach. In my yoga class, I'm always telling my students to honour their bodies. To accept that the limits today may be different than they were yesterday. Yoga isn't just about what happens on a sticky mat.

-I would rather have a DNF by my name than spend another couple thousand dollars in physiotherapy. As long as I learn from the DNF. Bring on ATB next year! Wait, let's get spring here first so that I can just go for a run!

-I can run pretty fast when I push myself, or when I listen to fast music.

-I miss running.

-My body amazes me. The things that I ask it to do and it does it. And doesn't make me pay (too badly).

And with that, I have a date with my fabulous claw foot tub and some Epsom salts.
