A nose in need

deserves Puffs indeed!

Overnight I have become a mucous factory. Thank goodness for the person who thought to put lotion in tissues!

Nothing else exciting. Slept a lot. Had pizza for dinner last night resulting in bad WI value this morning. Oh well, c'est la vie.

Bah!

I feel like I've been hit by a truck. My throat hurts. A lot. Woe is me. I've decided that I'll go to work but at 2 when the evening person comes in, I'm leaving! There's a 3 hour overlap on this shift that is a little ridiculous. Besides, I have a bus to catch tonight (heading to Mom's, then dr. appointment tomorrow morning).

It's really the best of both worlds--still get paid (yay) and leave early (yay).

Had brekkie half made this morning (I was kind of thinking ahead last night) and the bowl half gone before I realized it's Thursday. I'll WI tomorrow.

We're in!!

Big shout out to C. who was up and at'em early this morning (and I know how she loves mornings)to get us registered in the 30th annual Melissa's Road Race in Banff!

Whoo hoo! Now I really need to get my ass in gear: I'm registered for the half in Vancouver (and I bought my airfare) and now Melissa's in September. If I can shake this nasty virus that's refusing to let go, I could be back out there, running off my worries. But wait, it's -30C with the windchill today and tomorrow...so maybe I'll hold off for a day or two. =)

Off to work....will check in later!

A post on returns

....the return of winter. Blah.

AND

....the return of moi! Sorry I've been busy and tired when I get home. Tonight is no different. Had a great evening with a girl I used to work with. Got caught up on all the gossip (demotion of manager, jail time of former colleague, critical incident deets...all kinds of good stuff) and had a fabulous dinner at Earls.

I went to get my bloodwork done this morning so that my doc and I can chat on Friday when I go for my physical, but after waiting 15 minutes and only one person had their requisition entered, I left. Apparently I need to give myself more than half an hour. They can have two hours tomorrow morning and lemme tell ya, if it takes longer than that, heads will roll! For five cents, gimme the butterfly needle, tourniquet and tubes, I can take my own blood (just so you know, I'm not a druggie, I am a licensed medical laboratory technologist, trained and skilled to do such things). I was hungry, darn it!

Got in a little over time again today (cha-ching!) but now I'm ready for bed. I'll check in with y'all later!

Lazy day off

I love days off! Nerm and I got to sleep until we wanted to and there was no alarm clock involved. Unfortunately, Nerm thought she was dying of hunger and insisted that I remedy the situation immediately. For such a tiny thing, she can be pretty persuasive!

Did a little yoga with Rodney Yee and then had some yummy oatmeal (oats, almond breeze vanilla a la Angie, almond butter, honey and Lindt chocolate). Sipped some chai and finished my French homework for tonight and did a post-hire survey for work.

And now the day stretches ahead....

Cha Ching, Overtime!

All weekend long! Is it wrong to be happy that someone hurt their back so that I get to work? I also finangled Monday off as a bonus for working all weekend. Sweet! I'm sleeping in and doing yoga all day (along with French homework and French class).

WI = Happy Dance

Down 0.6 this morning! WHOO HOO!

Made a great brekkie for me and mom:
1/2 cup 9 grain oatmeal
1 cup 1% moo
1 heaping tsp almond butter
1 heaping tsp honey

Cook to desired consistency. Then stir in one mini Lindt milk chocolate truffle.

OH MY GOD. I never knew I could be so excited by oatmeal!

Y-a-a-a-w-n!

But it's a good tired! Had a good kip last night and woke up in a much better frame of mind.

Work was good--have I mentioned how much I LOVE my new job? Especially when I ran into a girl that I used to work with at the old place (who also happens to work at the new place, too; she's a work-a-holic but is also supporting her dad in an extended care facility, so who am I to judge?) who regaled me with stories about the old job. Again, I LOVE my new job!!

Came home and Mom and I got to work in the sunroom. It now has faux stained glass windows and bamboo blinds (trimmed to fit by yours truly) and only one trip to Home Depot was required. Then we fixed up the curtains, put on the bed skirt, moved the bed, made the bed (I love clean sheet day) and watched my landlord install a new smoke detector. It's all good.

Alas, I need to get some zzzz's. Big day tomorrow: groceries and picking up the bedside table I bought from Urban Barn.

Tired and cranky

Things were going great--the place is really coming together and today, today was the day I was to get my island! But NO! The bastards at Sears did not make a delivery today. And no one seems to know when Chinook Sears will get one. Not the people who work at the store. Not the Customer Service people at the 24 hour call centre. No one. Hmmm....Oh, and here's the best part. The microwave stand that I've been waiting for that is supposed to arrive on the 26th has apparently been back ordered. Sheesh!

So now I'm tired and cranky so I'm going to bed. Hopefully tomorrow will bring better news!

OH MY GOD!

Is this soup yummy!

Check it out: Red Lentil Soup

Happy February 14th!

I'm celebrating getting through Friday the 13th without any disasters!

Dinner last night was an old favourite: Harvey's cheeseburger with onion rings. Mmmmm....Don't judge--I had the points and we were going to Home Depot anyways.

My aunt and uncle are on their way down to help fix-er-up today. I've got a microwave to install above the stove, curtain rods and a closet organizer system. That should keep my uncle on his toes while my aunt is being recruited to organize my pantry and cupboards (and lack thereof).

Food is gonna be good: I've got a pork shoulder in the crock pot BBQ'd up and coleslaw with kicked up baked beans (bacon and veggies make everything better). I'm also making a red lentil soup that I found in Wish magazine. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Gotta go! Happy weekend to all!

WI results

Good morning!

It's been a flurry of activity here--Mom and I are on an organizing and cleaning roll! My aunt and uncle are coming down this weekend (I hope!) to help with some stuff, too.

Down 0.6 yesterday which is a small miracle, since I had carb cravings like crazy and didn't track consistently. I signed up for WW e-tools (there was a meeting deal) and I have to say, I'm not overly impressed. I like Calorie King better so far. I have till next Sunday to cancel so we'll see....

And with that, we're off to brave the cold for light bulbs, soup fixin's (it's -12C here) and a chai.

Happy Friday the 13th!

I've Never...

...met a cheese I didn't like. My latest fave is Grizzly Gouda (aged) from Sylvan Star Farms (Sylvan Lake, AB). I also got a medium Ementaler on Sunday that's pretty yummy, too. From a stinky blue to a smooth Provolone, I'm all about the cheese.

How 'bout you? A fan of the stinky? Plain ol' cheddar (nothing wrong with a classic)?

Late for work!

Did not want to get out of bed this morning! Alas, the hair is in a pony-tail and thank God for being able to wear scrubs to work!

Later,
H =)

Knackered

and going to have a nice, long soak in my tub!

Food's been crazy this week--can I blame it on the full moon?

Sunday Mornings (ahhh....how I love thee!)

Sundays are my favourite days! Usually I get a run in, but for the past few weeks I've been sick or moving or working....excuses, all of 'em, but a run is a great way to start the day. A chai always follows said run. And then a trip to the market is in order. AND two and a half hours of Coronation Street happens on Sundays!

There is no better day!

Went for noodles with my girls last night since we didn't make it to Thursday's meeting (I had to work and B. had surgery). Had the usual beef sate pho with extra veggies and 3 salad rolls. I LOVE hoisin sauce, but holy moses, does it make me retain water!

Gotta finish brekkie (all bran and fruit salad with moo this morning) and go dry my hair. Quick trip to the market and off to work at noon!

A demain,
H =)

Early Saturday post

Good morning!

I've got to work at 7, so I'm up and at 'em early today. I had a FABULOUS day off yesterday!

I did what I wanted to do, talked to no one (save the incredibly slow and incompetent bank teller and my hairdresser extraordinaire, Jody) and just hung out.

I've currently got my go-to brekkie on the go:
1/2c All Bran
1/2c Activia vanilla
3/4 - 1c (I don't measure fruit & veg in their naked form) fruit salad (strawberries, raspberries, peaches, crushed pineapple and blueberries)
1 mug tea (Earl Grey Lavender) w/ 1 tsp honey and 1% moo

I bought a grapefruit to try--everyone is saying how they're perfect right now, so I'll take that for my break. Lunch will be leftovers from dinner:
homemade meatloaf (beef/moose mixture, mushrooms, carrot, zucchini) & BBQ sauce (cattleboyz--a Calgary company)
1 c mashed spuds

Mmmmmm!

That's all I know at 0555h on a Saturday! Have a great day,
H =)

Photos at last!

Living room

Fireplace

Dining room (sorry, it's a bit dark)

Bedroom

Bathroom (note the clawfoot tub!)

Happy Friday!

It's a fabulous day--I got to sleep in (I love days off), Nerm and I are enjoying a quiet morning listening to some tunes (Colbie Caillat) in front of the fire, and I'm getting my sheep dog bangs trimmed! I may even watch the last bits of last week's Corrie (I tape the marathon on Sundays so that I can fast forward through the commercials and I didn't get to watch the whole thing on Sunday since I got called in to work). I also see a chai latte in there somewhere!

WI this week was a little disappointing: +0.2

This morning those two ounces are gone though, so I am anticipating another loss this week. I've also switched back to All Bran original (the sticks) instead of Fibre One. I'm sure that will also make a difference (sorry, probably TMI).

Hmmm....what else is new? I've got curtains up on all of my windows, but I need a handy guy to help me install a few things: new brackets/rods for new curtains and a microwave over the stove. Apparently I need to add to my list of desirable traits in a potential partner: able to competently operate power tools! I'm also waiting for an island and microwave stand (for my toaster oven b/c the microwave is going over the stove) from Sears. The island comes on the 17th and the stand on the 26th. I should be able to put those together myself, though. Pre-drilled holes I'm good with--it's the drilling part I need help with.

That said, I've asked my aunt and uncle to come down next weekend (it's Family day in Alberta, so we get a long weekend, plus I get a HUGE stretch of time off--6 days--so why wouldn't they like to spend it with their favourite niece?) and my uncle Craig is a pretty handy guy. Times like this I really miss my dad--while carpentry-type projects weren't his forte, he could've done this stuff no prob. =(

Alas, c'est la vie. Did I mention I've also got some French homework to do? I see that happening with the chai in a cafe somewhere...

Off to check up on my peeps...Happy Friday!

Monthly Recap

Like Vanessa and Jess, I'm starting the new day, week and month off by reviewing the past.

January
Start weight: 182.5
Current weight: 177.6
Total loss: 4.9

WHOO HOO!

Exercise: I need to work on this one! I only got 4 feet stickers (one/run).
Yoga: This one was better! 19 Turtles graced the month of January. I started February out right, too. It's just after 10 and I've got a turtle. Then I'm heading out for a run to add the foot sticker!

Went to see "The Reader" last night. I give it one and a half thumbs up! I had no idea what to expect (except it starred Kate Winslet and my cousin described it as soft porn). Definitely not the kind of movie you go to if you're looking for a laugh, but it will make you think.

That's about all I know today. Have a good one!
H =)

Update: made it out for my run, but my lungs doth protest too much, so it turned into a 4+ K speed walk instead of run. Went to the Farmer's Market with R and then were just about to walk into the movie theatre to see Clint's latest when I got called in to work. CHA CHING, overtime!! Put in 5.5 hours and am now shattered. Watching a little bit of Corrie and snacking on some whole wheat pita and tzatziki from the market. And then it's bed time!
